Beyond Sahibs and Munshis:
A New Agenda for International Studies
Presidential Address to the 55th Annual Convention of the International Studies Association, Toronto, March 26-29, 2014
It is a great pleasure for me to be back in the city of Toronto, where I lived for most of the 1990s to teach at York University. When I first arrived here, I was struck by the city’s diversity, dynamism and cosmopolitanism. Trust me, I am not running to be the Mayor of Toronto, although I hear that the post could do with a new face. But I do want to underscore that my years in this great city was my first encounter with the global society that we live in.
